John Digweed

Reviewed by Tim Davison / Submitted 03-06-06 19:13

Label: Renaissance
Format: CD
Genre: Progressive House

John Digweed has done and seen it all yet retains a special place in the dance music industry as an uncompomising taste maker who has always led and never followed.

Featuring the housier end of the progressive house spectrum this is a wonderful example of how to get the most from the limited period of time offered by the modern 80 minute CD.

There are no filler tracks in this expertly cohesive body of work and its evolution from 'Cruising' to 'Gebrunn Gebrunn' is a fantastic example of how a mix can/should progress. There is nothing obvious, no huge riffs, just wonderfully fluid grooves and jacking rhythms, cool stabs and interesting fx wherever you care to listen. A compilation you will genuinely want to keep returning each time hearing something new.

The album also corresponds with Digweed's new weekly 2 hour radio show of the same name. See www.johndigweed.com for more details. 'Transitions' is released on 5 June.
