Sander Van Doorn

» Pumpkin (SVD Mix)

Label: Spinnin' Records
Format: 12" Vinyl
Genre: Tech Trance

Weather you know him as Sander Van Doorn, SVD, AKA, or Mr Sam you cannot deny that this man is absolutely on fire at the moment and has been for the past year! Sounds dangerous I know, but with more releases over the past twelve months than there are notches on Jody Marsh’s bed post, here he is once again with an absolute stormer!
‘Pumpkin’ is a minimal but funky, groove fuelled, tech trance track that has the potential to devastate every dance floor it’s unleashed upon. From the word go SVD’s trademark Techy percussion is in full flow with stuttery loops and delayed wooden hits giving a nice tribal feel to the short intro. The Bassline is introduced early on and is so groovy it wouldn’t sound out of place on a Carl Cox Funky Techno track. Only two short bars and already my head’s bobbing like a kid on Halloween going after that tricky last apple in the bucket!

The track builds by the bar with more percussion being layered, some wicked Techy hats are used to great effect, and a deep synth stab is filtered in before the first small breakdown. Once we’re out of the small break we’re really motoring along with more synths being layered, some deep bassy sounds and some awesome sound effects are added which creates a nice depth to the track as we approach the main breakdown. The breakdown is nice and floaty, but he manages to maintain the energy throughout the track, even during these softer moments, which I think is really important and helps a track like this work so well on the dance floor. Once again the sound effects and synths are filtered up and down and layered over some truly awesome, eery pads. He uses these effects and filters them up to an almost intense level, which in turn creates a mammoth build up, and once the break reaches its crescendo we see, or hear, SVD at his best. Unleashing sheer energy on the dance floor!

The track that has been building and building over the past few minutes all comes together, and anyone who has heard this track will know exactly what I mean! You ever get that feeling when you hear a track and it just sounds ‘right’? Well, this is one of those. There’s no real ‘riff’ to it, which makes it appeal to me even more, it’s just the sheer groove and energy that makes it work. Well it certainly does or me anyway, I hope you agree!

I’ve been a SVD fan for a while now yet he still continues to impress, so any SVD fans out there, you will not be disappointed with this little number! I for one hope he continues to churn out tracks of this quality, because I love it!

Am a bit 50/50 on this one...its a useful tune to have in your wallet- but not SvD's finnest effort IMO

Agree with Daegal on this one to be honest. If you want a break from Euphoria, there are much better tunes out there instead. Love his other stuff though, and look forward to seeing him at Dance Valley.
