‘You're drifting along on a heaving sea of bass frequency, a gleaming sun radiating its stimulating warmth into your body and mind, its glistening melodic reflections dancing all around you: Welcome to the world of Fertile! The prolific Israeli duo creates an immersive flow experience that is sometimes reminiscent of the golden days of the Progressive Trance era, while at the same time sprouting the blossoms of a uniquely up-to-date sound with a distinctly psychedelic twist’. May 9th, 2025 sees the release of their debut album ‘Everywhere’ on the legendary Iono-Music label, and this seems like the perfect time to get to know these guys a little bit deeper…
Tell us about the beginning of your musical journey….
In the Beginning – The 90s Spark
Back in the early '90s, we found ourselves captivated by the emerging sounds of electronic music. Artists like Tim Schulz and Mark Allen were part of our first encounters with the genre, and a bit later, we were blown away by the rise of Infected Mushroom. We didn’t just listen to electronic music — we grew alongside it. The moment the scene began to form and gain momentum, we were already there, immersed and inspired.
Childhood, Analog Dreams, and Evolution
Being kids during the 1990s meant that electronic music wasn’t just a trend for us — it was our upbringing. It was the soundtrack of our adolescence. As we grew older, our connection to the sound matured with us. From the raw, hands-on days of analog synthesis to the intricate, digital landscapes of today’s production, we developed step by step with the music. It became more than sound — it became a voice, a feeling, and a guiding presence in our lives.
At just 15 years old, we stumbled across a little shop in Tel Aviv that specialised in analog gear. It was one of the few places of its kind at the time and a true pioneer in the Israeli scene. That shop was where we heard the Access Virus synth for the first time — a moment that changed everything. The sound was like nothing we had experienced before, and it sent our imaginations into overdrive. From that point on, there was no turning back. That was our entry into a lifelong journey.
Influences and the Cassette Era
One major moment that left an imprint was the release of Hitman 5 hehehe. A legendary compilation featuring acts like X-Dream and labels like Flying Rhino and TIP Records and Krembo (which is based in Tel Aviv and had a record shop). It was a golden era of experimentation. Back then, everything was physical. We traded tapes, cherished double-cassette editions, and copied over worn-out mixes, just to keep the vibe alive. It was raw, it was underground, and it was beautiful.
First Gear, First Steps
We were still kids — barely teenagers — and yes, we had hair back then! Around that time, my older brother’s friends already had access to gear like the Korg Prophecy, Yamaha Groovebox, and the iconic TB-303. That gear was magical to us. We didn’t have YouTube tutorials or fancy plugins. We just played, explored, and discovered through pure curiosity. That gear, those moments — that’s what lit the spark.
How do you find working as a duo?
The Dynamic Duo: Like a Marriage
Working together for so many years is a bit like being in a long-term relationship. There are ups and downs, creative bursts and dry spells, but we’ve always had each other’s backs. What makes it work is that we’re constantly feeding off each other’s energy. We send ideas back and forth, light each other up creatively, and let our individual styles push and pull until something new emerges. That “something” is PRTL — our musical alter ego.
The truth is, we’re both huge fans of each other’s work. That mutual respect makes the collaboration seamless. Even when we disagree, we find middle ground, and that tension often leads to something greater than what we could do alone.
What studio set up do you currently have, and what’s your process when making a new track?
Studios, Gear, and the Creative Flow
Over the years, we’ve passed through countless studios. Each move brought a wave of new equipment, new inspiration, and a different vibe. We’ve worked with everything from analog modular rigs to cutting-edge digital setups. Right now, we’re settled into a flow with tools like Dynaudio monitors, Barefoot MM35, Eurorack modules, RME interfaces, Komplete Kontrol keyboards, and of course, the legendary Virus synths that started it all.
The Power of Collaboration
Our creative process is deeply influenced by nature, travel, and sometimes just the rhythms of daily life. Being a duo has made all the difference. When one of us is tired, the other steps up. When one is stuck, the other gets the flow going again. There’s an unspoken balance. That’s the strength of our partnership — it keeps everything fresh, alive, and moving forward.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Our influences span a wide spectrum. We’ve always had a deep love for electronic music, but we try not to limit ourselves to one speed, one genre, or one vibe. Artists like Stephan Bodzin, Artbat, Tale of Us, and Shpongle have all left their mark on us. But beyond the electronic realm, we also find inspiration in progressive rock and bands like Dream Theater. Music is music — it doesn’t matter what box it fits into.
What is your biggest achievement in life?
No matter how much music means to us, nothing compares to the families we’ve built. Our greatest accomplishment isn’t a track or an album — it’s our wives and kids. They’re the ones who give us purpose, grounding, and support through every late-night session and studio obsession. We’re proud of them. They’re part of this journey as much as we are.
You’re signed to the incredible Iono-Music. How did this relationship begin?
Connecting with the Label – A Turning Point
About four years ago, a friend introduced us to label owner Matthias. It started with a message, a few shared demos, and something just clicked. From the very first call, we knew it was special — on both a professional and personal level. That’s how we found our home with IONO Records. It’s not just a label — it’s our label. It feels like family.
Working with IONO has been a dream. The communication is clear, the process is structured, and the label is filled with passionate, skilled professionals who complete the creative picture. Once we finish crafting the music, their team steps in to polish the visual and artistic elements, always with total dedication. Their support allows us to focus fully on our art.
Congratulations on your debut album. How exciting! Tell us all about it...
Debut Album – A Personal Journey
On May 9th, our debut album 'Everywhere' is dropping — and we couldn’t be more excited. The album represents a unique blend of styles. You’ll hear techno-infused grooves with emotional basslines and sweeping melodies, as well as subtle hints of psytrance woven throughout. It doesn’t follow recycled templates or predictable structures. Each of the nine tracks tells its own story; each beat has its own identity.
This album was more than a project — it was a journey. We began crafting it about a year and a half ago, and it slowly became the soundtrack to this chapter of our lives. Every song reflects a moment, a feeling, an experience we lived through. In many ways, it’s a musical memoir.
The Vision
Our vision is simple: we want people to feel something. To enjoy the music, to be inspired, and maybe even to be creatively awakened by it. We want it to resonate with listeners the same way it resonates with us. If it sparks something in others, then we’ve done our job.
And finally… if someone were to write a book about your life so far, what would it be called?
Piano Road or Piano Roll?
We’ll leave that one open to interpretation
