Antiworld vs Logic: reviewed

As soon as I heard that my two favourite underground parties were joining together for the night I got a feeling of excitement in my stomach that I hadn’t felt since last summer. Back then I didn’t even know who was playing, all I knew was that I was going regardless. Weeks later I witnessed the line up and I knew instantly it was going to be a magical night.
Unfortunately the Fridge was closed due to certain circumstances, so both parties had the challenging mission of finding a suitable venue literally days before the event. After a few phone calls and no doubt sprouting more than a few grey hairs, finally they came together and found the perfect venue, the Dogstar.
It was a case of never judge a book by its cover as when I first heard the name of the venue, I must confess I was apprehensive to say the least. But both promotions came up smelling of sweet roses as it was one hell of a party.
We arrived at half past ten and when I saw the venue from the outside for the first time I wasn’t convinced, until I got inside and then it was a different story. Antiworld and Logic had managed to make their mark with their usual fluro décor and projector screens displaying some fantastic trippy visuals to keep us entertained. The position of the dj I thought was perfect for interaction and the venue had a really warm feel about the place.
First up to warm us up was Antiworld’s Paul Panic who played some techno, which isn’t really my thing, but I thought his mixing was really good and the tunes flowed nicely. I went for a wander halfway through his set and I was impressed with the venue and the layout. The chill out area was nice and had comfortable leather sofas, which were far too easy to sit down in and not get back up again. Next to the chill out area was the small out door garden area where they were selling all kinds of hot yummies, I was quite surprised how many people were up for eating.
Adam Lab 4
I didn’t stay for long as Mike Redina was on next, so I went back to hear some of his set. He played some groovy techno which went down well with the crowd, but it wasn’t really my cup of tea.
Following Mike was Adam Lab4. It had been a long time since I’d seen him play out on his own and his techno set was really enjoyable, and he pulled even more people onto the dancefloor. During his set it just got busier and busier by the minute, then all of a sudden I started to feel a bit squashed up the front and looked back and the place was rammed. Clearly all the promoters’ hard work had paid off.
Shaf De Bass
Up next was Shaf De Bass who played exactly what I love, and he made his Logic mark by playing a brilliant uplifting set that got additional people onto the dancefloor. By then it was looking really busy. Shaf didn’t stop smiling during his set and I think after all the slight teething problems with relocating it was a deserving moment of triumph for him.
Next up was the anthem king K90 and he was on top form as usual; he took the energy in the room up to the next level. K90 has never failed to get me on my feet, the music he produces is so clever and appeals to all tastes. His sound has an element of every musical genre: with that combination and the atmosphere on the dancefloor, the passion in the room was amazing.
K90
K90 is renowned for his smiley interaction and soon as his set started the cheers of appreciation filled the dancefloor. His sets are one of a kind and whilst listening to him you are guaranteed to be taken on a dancing journey into euphoria. It’s great when you see a dj in their element absolutely having it behind the decks. That in itself gets the adrenaline spread across the room. I looked back from the front of the dancefloor and everyone was dancing as hard as they could, smiling hard. There were two sexy Brazilian girls up on guy’s shoulders dancing away in skimpy tops for a good half hour; another guy was on his mate’s shoulders holding up a Brazilian flag right in the middle of the crowd. The vibe was just electric and it was so nice to see such a different variety of people all loving the same thing.
Next up with his truly amazing psychedelic sound was Eskimo who I take my hat off to. I had previously been blown away by him at Wandsworth palace so I was eager to hear him again to confirm just how amazing he is… and he was truly amazing! His mixing was completely effortless and flawless, I was in complete awe and actually sat down so I could listen and watch the crowds go crazy. It was clear he had massive support as everyone was going crazy. I found his tunes really driving because one minute I was sat listening taking it all in and then all of a sudden a deep bassline would pull me back on my feet again. The lasers looked stunning from the back of the room as I could see them bouncing off everyone’s dancing heads in an array of different colours, it really set the mood nicely.
Eskimo
As Eskimo’s set finished there was a huge ovation and a cheer to bring on the surprise guest, the crazy Mohican from Antiworld known as Sutekh it was as much of a surprise to us as it was to him that he was going to be playing. Once his set started everyone went mental, including him. I thought he played a brilliant set and looked like he was ion his element. I remember one of the tunes he played had a crazy lyric that made you stop and listen, it went quiet and all of a sudden said ‘can you please stop the party, the police are outside…’ After the previous week’s fiasco at the fridge I thought that went down a real treat, it certainly made me chuckle and was a great end to a brilliant night.
It was so nice for Logic and Antiworld to reap the rewards they truly deserved, they told us to have faith and we did them proud and supported two amazing promotions as they came together to create one hell of a party. Considering it was the first time the Dogstar had been used for a hard house event they did us proud… when is the next one?!

- that place has NEVER had so much bass pumping through it. I'd suggest they get in some structural surveyors to insure the foundations are still safe and solid.
