Extreme Euphoria: The Spring Ball reviewed

Reported by Claire99 / Submitted 29-03-06 18:30

After careful thought and consideration I realised I wasn’t finding the hard dance scene harder due to me getting older, the truth of the matter was I had been suffering with SAD disorder. So last weekend I warmed up my cockles with a few vodkas, dug out my warmest coat and headed off to The Fridge for a dose of Extreme Euphoria. It was The Spring Ball, what a way to say goodbye to my winter blues.

The Extreme team always manage to fill their parties with smiling faces and produce star studded line ups, but this line up got me hunting for my warm coat quicker than you can say “springtime.” The main thing that attracted me to this party was Andy Farley, it had been far too long since I’d seen him play out and I’m a massive fan of his.

Once Saturday arrived I decided to set out as early as possible, vodka mix in one hand, train pass in the other and I was out the door for half past eight. I arrived at the Fridge just in time for Carl Nicholson’s debut and I thought he played exceptionally well, with consistent tight mixing and he dropped in some really great get on your feet tunes that got the party started nicely. Fortunately it didn’t take too long to fill up and by twelve the dancefloor was buzzing with energy.

Following Carl Nicholson’s set was the sexy Lisa Pinup looking lovely as ever. Lisa upped the tempo nicely with some fat bass lines, which worked the crowd into a right frenzy. Lisa happily danced and sang ‘Really Like Cocaine’ to her adoring fans. Lisa is notorious for her interaction with her fans, she’s guaranteed to be having fun behind the decks wherever she plays, which is what us clubbers thrive off.

Up next was birthday boy Kevin Energy, who I have always been a great fan off and he’s been on the scene longer than I can remember. He loved every minute of it, the crowd cheered on as he egged them on to have that little bit harder whilst he raised them up to the next level.

Up last was Andy Farley, on for the last for an hour and a half. It was great to see his friendly smiley face back behind the decks again. Andy ended the night brilliantly and his set progressed getting tougher n darker with each mix. I loved the way he drove his set, full steam ahead... I have always been a great fan of Andy’s style of mixing and I do hope to see him play out more often. I had planned on popping into the second room for a bit which was hosted by Kinky U, but unfortunately I couldn’t pull myself away from the main room, not even for five minutes.

My only disappointment about the night was that it slowly started to get emptier by about 5am; this always seems to happen at the Fridge in the winter for some strange reason. All in all I had a really good night and didn’t stop dancing. The Extreme team always pull in a really friendly crowd and I have to admit the Fridge looked as inviting as ever.
