Trance Generation – A Secret Worth Sharing

Friday the 13th: usually a night associated with bad omens and superstitions. To be honest, on my way to Soundshaft for my first Trance Generation experience – I had my doubts. The night held the promise of quality trance with names like Scott Bond, Thrillseekers and Agnelli & Nelson, but being a trance addict for five years and spending nights on the dance floor with extreme and varied crowds, I have learnt that without the electric atmosphere and connection with fellow clubbers, the night can fade away like a long forgotten song.
Upon entering Soundshaft, after following the signs in the alleyways behind Heaven and exchanging smiles with gorgeous clubbers in the queue, the butterflies in my stomach started fluttering. I knew I was home.
The night kicked off with Gary Ramsden – his set gently leading eager clubbers to the edge of the dance floor. Looking down from the balcony, admiring the terrific lighting system and big screens, I slowly made my way down to the dance floor – stopping frequently to chat with equally excited people about a night which was slowly developing into a big one. Bruno Cernecca started his set at 11:30 and forced me to join the growing crowd in front of the DJ box. His music produced an endless stream of energy, constantly pumping through the crowd, and prepared us for an impressive set by Ehren Stowers. The massive song Let you go by Corderoy pushed emotions sky high, causing hundreds of newly made friends to inter link fingers and shout in pure ecstasy.
Scott Bond never fails to impress with quality trance tunes, avoiding mainstream trance and the horrors of commercial music. His involvement and communication with the crowd always amazes me and he could not end his set with a better tune than Summer Overture, the deep twisted theme song of Requiem For A Dream.
Agnelli & Nelson’s years of experience, wisdom and immense talent sent the crowd to the ‘wonderful white stage’, so adequately described in Human Traffic. An atmosphere of euphoria and extreme happiness filled the room, and I found myself hugging strangers and wishing the night would never end. The well-known Holding On To Nothing sent voices in the air – the entire floor sang along to the legend song.
The Thrillseekers surprised me with a powerful set – fuelled by emotion, a beautiful wave washing over the crowd – forcing me and those around me to keep our hands in the air. Richard Templeman finished the evening with a brilliant trance set – leaving the crowd gasping and shouting for more.
At seven the next morning, the dance floor was still full of exhausted clubbers swaying in silence – the music and brilliance of the night engraved in their memories. We reluctantly left, then gathered in the sunshine, exchanging phone numbers and made promises of our next Trance Gen rendezvous.
Trance Generation was a night to remember. As they say: The Best Crowd; The Best DJ’s; The Best Kept Secret. I left Soundshaft with excellent memories, ten new numbers on my phone and nursed my tired body with the promise to return – to be, once again, part of it. Share this :: : : :
