Who's Your Daddy - Review

Reported by Sarah Lever / Submitted 26-07-02 21:18

What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than to saturate myself with the Who’s Your Daddy Crew @ Club Aquarium for an afternoon of Hard and Funky House. When my buddies and I arrived around 3:00pm, I was immediately impressed with the already eager gathering of partygoers. The club quickly filled out, with a mainly antipodean crowd, of boys in their bathers and girls in their funkiest summer gear. Which all added up to a friendly and up for it atmosphere.

Walking through the main room, where Si was Kicking off the afternoon gave an air that the event was going to rock. I cruised passed the pool and headed to the steamy, sexy, funky house room where Arron Hollows warmed things up, then the phantastik Charles Large (Groove2Strong and Funky Trolley) took over. He played a delicious set complemented by his fellow DJ-ing partner Don Craig. Their joint forces got the crowd grooving to tunes by Tim Deluxe - It Just Wont Do; DJ Buck - How the West was Won; and Shakedown - At Night (Kid Cream rmx).

Back in the Main room the crowd was getting charged up to a stabbing set played by Stretch. By this point my fellow British DJ companion was commenting on how extreme you Antipodeans like to party. The crowd was getting evermore friendly as my frequent visits to the vibrant pink toilets increased (which had proper computer animated adverts to pass the time if you happened to be queuing.) Talking of visuals- watching the Spanish Matador, getting rammed up the arse by a crazed bull on the projections in the main room enhanced the highly energized last few minutes of Stretch. Next up, was the delectable Matt Clarke, who took over and delivered a reliably awe-inspiring set, this pleased the, now full, dance floor no end.

Shimmying back to the Funky room to see what Large and Craig were up to, on my way, I couldn’t help but stick my head around the door of the pool to see what ripples were being made in the water. Unfortunately the heat from the pool did not tempt my near boiling body to go for a splash, so I funked around in my bikini in the funky room until the funkster Funky Mike took over. (He also recently kicked arse with Stretch@ Pamps) Mikes’ set nicely contrasted Spencer Freelands’ vigorous style in the Main room. By this point the whole club was pumping but, happily, without the claustrophobia of an excessively jammed dance floor. Drinks were nicely priced, so they didn’t make too much of a dent in peoples wallets (as far as I know). Also there were plenty of comfortable sofas, near the bar areas, for those who couldn’t handle the pace or just wanted to chill for a while.

Whos Your Daddy did exactly what it said on the flyer. For those of you who want an early one, and don’t want to feel too sketchy cum Sunday or, as part of a warm up for the rest of the night if you're planning to go to other dimensions. Either way this is perfect. Although the pool was not as popular as I thought it would be, the whole event was an energizing way to spend a Saturday afternoon/evening. Cheers Bill and Reon for pulling off another successful occasion and to everyone who took part. Watch this space for future related promotions.
