The Gallery NYE. Wednesday 31st December at Ministry of Sound. The ultimate New Year’s celebration. The mother of all parties. This year brought to life by two of London's biggest clubbing institutions and featuring a world class line-up of friendly faces, very special guests and the capitals most up for it crowd!
The Gallery’s move to Ministry of Sound has been described as a match made in heaven. Others have said it’ll never work, never be the same as it was... but for us, it’s the new beginning we were looking for, a chance to turn back the clock and do it all again. A chance to re-write history. Since teaming up with the world famous MoS in April this year, The Gallery has begun a journey which has shaken this city to its very foundations. The success story of the year continues as we bring you the night of your life. ‘Excellence in the Art of Sound’ this New Years Eve at Ministry of Sound. 8 months in the making... and boy, you do not want to miss this, so jump in and enjoy the ride.
So onto the all important NYE line-up, beginning with the UK’s undisputed kings of trance - Above & Beyond. The much loved threesome began 2008 playing to 1 million people on New Year’s Eve in Rio (thought to be the largest live DJ gig ever) - an auspicious start and another milestone in their fast-rising journey to becoming “one of Britain’s biggest dance outfits” (The Sun). Above & Beyond have just been installed as the World’s No.4 DJs in DJ Mag’s latest Top 100 Poll – their highest ranking to date - and they recently brought south London to a standstill with their ‘Anjunabeats Volume 6’ album launch at The Gallery, MOS in October. Above & Beyond were also recently voted 11th in Mixmag’s list of the best dance acts of the past 25 years and their weekly radio show is a regular fixture in the iTunes music podcast Top 10, mirroring the success of their OceanLab album, ‘Sirens of the Sea’, which was a Top 10 seller in both the UK and US iTunes sales charts. However, statistics tell only a fraction of the story. Their rise to global attention is seen through the eyes of tens of thousands of music fans worldwide each weekend. Now captured on their Youtube channel, Tony, Paavo, and Jono’s exploits have taken them to all four corners of the earth. Highpoints in recent months include a monumental show in Beirut, a trail-blazing visit to Bolivia, and a bus tour across the USA, including a career-defining performance at the Coachella festival. Yes ladies and gentleman, Above & Beyond are back at The Gallery this New Years Eve and you’d be an absolute fool to miss it!!
Next up is chief party starter Danny Howells who’ll be presiding over the Box’s beats with an exclusive 3 Hour Set. The Dig Deeper star is one of the most respected DJ/Producers of all time, having pioneered the electronic musical landscape for as many years we can remember. Still very much at the top of his field, Danny has held residencies throughout the world’s most hedonist clubs and festivals and regularly plays for Bedrock, Renaissance and Global Underground. He’s just been voted the 4th Best DJ in Data Tranmission’s UK Top 40 Poll (behind Erol, Sasha & Digweed) and his own night Dig Deeper was one of the stand out parties held at the End, before Danny and the gang recently moved the brand south of the river to Ministry of Sound. It’s here where his unique and infectious sound works best – on that bass-shuddering soundsystem. Having played regularly for The Gallery back in its Turnmills heyday and now calling MoS his new home; Danny Howells’ appearance on New Year’s Eve is set to be some sort of musical ménage trois. And we love the sound of that...
We also very much love the sound of Gallery superstar resident and first lady of house, Sister Bliss. Having supported The Gallery since day dot, the feisty Faithless DJ has the special honour of bringing in the New Year in her own untouchable style as we all ‘become one’ – Midnight at Ministry! Expect a flurry of classic choons and the odd exclusive new track for the forthcoming Faithless album. Oh yes! And there’s more, as the Blisster will be joined on stage by Faithless’ very own percussionist Sudha, who’ll be making this midnight sermon even more memorable!! The MoS Box also welcomes Global Underground resident Anil Chawla to the decks, supported by a closing set from Gallery resident The Viceroy. Anil has long been a favourite at The Gallery and now GU – with whom he releases his debut artist album in Feb 2009. A DJ/Producer forever on the up (and up!), Anil’s deep and techy tones will perfectly complement Sister Bliss’ pre-Midnight sound... leaving The Viceroy to drop Gallery dancefloor bombs post-Howells for the big hands-in-the-air finale!
Over in the Bar, the vibe is simple; if you ain’t here to party you ain’t coming in! The Gallery’s NYE parties are legendary, as much for the killer headline acts as they are for laying on the perfect feel-good floor-fillers... and who better to lead the charge than Mr Gallery himself – Tall Paul. At 6 foot 4, there’s literally no one bigger than he, and no one better to give the crowd what they want! So strap yourselves in and enjoy the ride! Likewise co-Gallery resident Gavyn Mytchel has been with the club for nearly a decade. Having started giving out flyers at Turnmills, Gavyn is now a global resident for The Gallery and will always remain the people’s favourite! Tania von Pear is another popular jock and resident of all things house at Gallery HQ. Get ready for her four-to-the-floor mash-ups, with a supporting role for rising star Gareth Harding. Seeing as its New Years Eve we’ve pulled in our favourite backroom hosts to bring on the party in the intimate spaces. Therefore, Get Twisted will be booming it out in the Baby Box with DJs Mark da'Ground, Kev Reason, Nick Foster, Max M@sh, Steve Norwood, Jonnie Maison and Door$y, whilst Plastic Fondu funk up The Lounge as The Persuaders, Seb Rumore, Rokit, Rob & Dave Marchant and Koto get busy on the decks!
Having built its reputation as one of the globe’s most essential and forward-thinking parties as a result of 13 incredible years at the infamous Turnmills, as of April 2008, The Gallery swapped Farringdon for Elephant & Castle - where the night has gone onto even bigger and better things. That unforgettable opening party featured the world’s no.1 Armin van Buuren, followed up with sell out shows from Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten and many more of the world’s finest. The key to The Gallery has always been its residents and its friendly crowd and in international stars Sander van Doorn, Markus Schulz and Hernan Cattaneo they have three of the best. Tall Paul, Sister Bliss, Steve Lee, Gavyn Mytchel and The Viceroy represent the home-grown talent and with many of our favourite DJs in place for the ultimate clubbing countdown... The Gallery NYE at Ministry of Sound is set to go with a BANG!!
