DJ Fresh Starting Dj-ing at boarding school (Maru A Pula in Botswana) @ the age of 13. Back then at age 13 you were either Dj-ing off cassette or off cassette, a lot of which he still has. He has never looked back since then, and has no plans of stopping at any time soon... LOL.
Fresh Did his first Radio Show on RB2 (Botswana) in 1992, eventually ditching Law Studies in 1994, to pursue Media Full-time.
He Joined YFM at inception in 1997, where he did the afternoon drive show before doing breakfast in 2003. In 2006 he (controversially) moved to 5FM in what was arguably the most covered, debated, (and at times criticized) move in South African Radio History.
It was through Fresh's Mad 1/2 hour (Guest DJ Feature on YFM) that many a talent was unearthed and/or exposed. Names like Cleo, Sbu, Monde, Thulani the Warrior, Koti, Mpho, Mbuso, Claude, China, Troydon, Jawz, Greg the Musical Maestro, Digwele, Fingers.. and, and, and....
Fresh has 18 (or is it 20) house albums under his belt. The first 4 of these albums, the Fresh House Flava Range, arguably changed the landscape and consumption of House Music in Southern Africa, Forever!!
Fresh has shared the DJ booth with a number of internationals, including “Little Louie” Vega, Frankie Knuckles, Armand Van Helden, Chris Lake, Paul Van Dyke, Oskido, Fat Boy Slim, Hoxton Whores, Jazzy Jeff, Harley & Muscle, Ready D, Kenny Gope Gonzales, Viny Da Vinci, Deep, Gregory and Dominic Spreadlove.
Cities like Johannesburg, Miami, London, Cape Town, Moscow, Brisbane, Ibiza, Leeds, Durban, Gaborone, Birmingham, Dubai, Montreal and Melbourne have repeatedly jammed to Fresh's beats.
DJ Fresh is one 5th of DJU, which comprises of DJs Oskido, Vinny, Christos, & Greg Maloka, a team of leading South African deejays, musicians, producers and media personalities. Inspired by international conferences such as The Miami Winter Music Conference, DJU established the Southern African Music Conference in 2005.
The conference is more than a talk shop for deejays & producers, it is a critical platform for Southern African dance music industry practitioners to keep pace with, and eventually lead global developments.
The SAMC is aimed at attracting delegates that are either involved or interested in the music industry as deejays, producers, performers, writers, promoters and so on.
It is the only developmental platform for the music industry in South Africa influenced by dance music.
