Playtime's first night at the key with
Arnaud Rebotini (Blackstrobe)
Mike Monday (Playtime Recs)
Big Daddy (Playtime Recs)
Of particular interest to the HF crowd because of ...
ARNAUD REBOTINI is half of Black Strobe - the world's biggest disco, frozen-balearic, gay biker-house, boogie-trance, heavy-electronica and soft-goth electronica duo, which he formed with Ivan Smagghe. They call it "electronic music that is not afraid to scare people", and the duo's peerless deviant disco predated the neo-electro scene in which the duo found a like-minded band of friends like James Murphy of The DFA, Berlin-based producer Ewan Pearson, Canadian dandy Tiga and Belgian siblings Soulwax. As Blackstrobe they've remixed the Rapture, Playgroup, the Hacker, Royksopp, Fischerspooner but even Arnaud alone has remixed many of the hottest new electro names like Oliver Huntemann, Zen Kei and Playtime favourite Savas Pascalidis. With his new track "Meshuggah" out on Kling Klong records and a followup about to be released on pivotal label Goodlife, as well as a Blackstobe remix compilation just out, Rebotini will make a rare UK appearance at the relaunch of Playtime at the Key...
MIKE MONDAY needs no introduction to Playtime, having been resident since almost the first days of the club. But if you've not seen the insane quantities of press he's had since the release of his Oct 06 album Smorgasbord, here's the quotes again - "album of the month" and "an album of the year" (IDJ); "a classic" (One week to live; "an LP we just can't put down" (DJ) and "proof that baldies have all the fun" (Mixmag). Having recently been touring Shanghai, San Francisco, Australia, New York, Sweden, Paris and even Preston, this is Monday's first gig at Playtime for some time...
BIG DADDY has long been head cheerleader of an extended wonky house scene that ranges from local DJs like Mike Monday and the Cheshire Catz to NYC types like Kerowack and SF's Dirtybird Records. As the man behind Playtime the club - "the best mixed club in London" (TNT), he was the first person to bring Abe Duque, Claude Von Stroke and Mason to London. He's also behind GEEK, beatport.com's only UK night, and Playtime Records, "the label of the moment" (OWTL), "one of the best labels to come out of 2005" (DJ), and "one of the 100 reasons house music still rules" (IDJ). This year, expect notice of two new quarterly residents for the club...
