KENNY RIGOROUS

Brief History:
Started DJing in 1987 during the acid house days, many years ago which developed into playing hardcore, jungle and reggae then gave it up through travelling around working for a living. Eventually settling back down in sunny Hull Ken started clubbing when it was the house scene, developed a love for hard house in 2000 at nights like Insomniacz and Sunny D and never looked back.
Wanting to share the out of town clubbing experience with the locals he began running regular coach trips for those who wanted to carry the night on well into the Sunday lunch!
Set up his own company, Momentum Promotions Ltd in 2000 and brought the scene to Hull. He created Sunday Service, which only ran for a few months but had memories for those who came. Not giving up he started bringing record label tours to Hull like Nukleuz, Hot wax and much more. With this being successful he then got the bug to try something new.
After starting another night at the Room in Hull called “Up & Coming”, giving amateur and bedroom DJs the chance to play in a mainstream club. Support and plays from Energy UK DJ’s who are now well established and are record producers. Many DJ’s who played here went on to bigger and better things and have made it. Due to problems with the premises this ended after 4 months.
Having achieved so much in such a small amount of time, but not being content he decided to put all of his energy into DJing. Bought a set of 1210’s in 2002 and began mixing hard house…
Style:
Hard House – Bouncy to Dark, Hard & Fast
Able to read the crowd, can be first on keeping it bouncy or just light experimenting with tastes and tunes, or can finish taking it harder and faster leaving the clubbers fulfilled and wanting more.
Also plays old skool house, progressive house, funky house and speed garage.
Respected DJ’s – Paul Glazby and Jez & Charlie
Labels of choice: – plenty of good white, Passion Records, Vicious Circle and anything that rocks.
Big Break:
Extreme Euphoria, Hull- May 2004
After much persuasion from friends and acquaintances he eventually gave a CD to the club Manager and Promoter and was given a slot but through years of clubbing abuse his memory got the better of him and he was not certain of the date… some time later he wandered into the club the day after he was meant to be playing to be told he missed it, because of the kind of guy he is and his personality they laughed it off and gave him another chance, Debuting on the same night as Sunny D’s Kerry James, which developed into a residency and he never forgot the dates again.
